GB Day 11-12:

Rest day, then Abisko-Šiellajohka

Via Abiskojaure

Tuesday 20 July 2021 - Wednesday 21 July 2021

Tuesday was rest day, which we started with a nice big breakfast at Abisko mountain station. We also cleaned some of our equipment and washed our clothes. Then Helena, Viktor and their dog Diesel arrived by train so we hung out with them quite a lot, together with Micke.

In the evening Lukas, Kim and Micke used the sauna for half an hour which was really nice!

Wednesday we went up and started cleaning the room right away. Micke was up early to have the breakfast buffet, while Lukas and Kim slept some more instead. By 9 AM we were done cleaning, so we checked out and went to Fjällboden to get something to have for breakfast (and Micke got something for lunch). Kim and Lukas bought a sandwich and pizza 🍕

This was reeeeaaally nice!

After that we sat in the lobby for a while, and then outside in the big tipi waiting while Kim finished the text for the upcoming blog posts and Helena rebooked their train tickets (not the easiest thing to do now when two different companies are involved), we also made lunch.

After that we said goodbye to Micke - it will be odd to not see him for about two months, normally we see him at least once a month.

We then set off, and Kim walked side by side with Helena for a while, talking her head off. She didn't mind though.

After 10 days of no people, no proper trails, or no trails at all, walking between Abisko and a bit after Abiskojaure was weird. The trail felt like a highway - easy to walk on, wide, planks everywhere, bridges, and people, lots of people.

Just as we left the national park we made camp. A bit further ahead, lots of people had thought the same. Unfortunately our tent spot was JUST beside the trail, but as we started looking for spots it was cold and rainy, so you take whatever you find!

After dinner and a snack, we fell asleep for about an hour or so. It could've been fine, unless Kim hadn't woken up to another bloodbath - once more worse than the previous ones. Can't wait 'til it's over.

After fixing that, in the cold and rainy weather, it was time to go to bed for real this time!
