Polar night and Christmas together 🩵
Summary of December 2023
n the beginning of December it officially became polar night, even though we hadn't seen the sun pretty much since we arrived because it was behind the mountains. Even though it was tough being away from each other, it was also so cool to be in this place and experiencing the polar night, trying out different winter activities and learning my new job. In retrospect there was something very special about the polar night. Everything felt very calm, as long as it wasn't too cloudy the light was just amazing and then in the end of December, Lukas visited and everything felt Just. Right.
Until he had to go back home again. Luckily it wasn't long until Christmas where I got to see all the family 💕 It went by in a blur but it was so nice!
And then Lukas finally came and visited ❤️
One of the days here, we went with one of the photographers here to get photos taken, and to also practise a bit with our new camera. It proved somewhat difficult in the very cold weather.
Then the same evening, we went down to the Canyon to try and take photos of the aurora.
We also tried ice climbing! Lukas thought it was quite easy, while Kim thought it was really difficult and a bit scary. It was also difficult because her hands got very cold.
Next time we met, was about 1,5 weeks later because it was Christmas!
Coronatomten (“The covid Santa Claus”) came and visited us at Lukas’ family’s place.
And we played “julklappsspelet” (~The Christmas Game)
And Kim got to see the sun again!
The next day we went to Kim’s family to celebrate Christmas again.
And play julklappsspelet once more 😊
We also played some other games in the evening.
Then Kim was back in Abisko again. The last days of the year she spent in a cabin, a few km south of Abisko, and on her way back home to Abisko she was met by the most amazing view.
