TA Day 2: Friday 20 December 2024

Bluff Freedom Farm - Invercargill (Tuatara Lodge)

Early morning today as we woke up before 6, and left Freedom Farm at 06:30. It was cloudy, a bit windy and cool, perfect weather for hiking!

After a few kms the walk/bike path left the State Highway 1 for a little while, and we took the opportunity to have a breakfast break in the grass beside the road.

Then we kept going along the State Highway 1 again, and the road just went on, and on, and on... Flat, unending, but with a slight curve to it at least...

Suddenly an old bus shelter showed up, and we sat down inside on the benches that were covered in some green dust...

After some time one of the Czech couple's showed up - Lukas and Klara. We walked and talked with them for a little while, but after some time they passed us for the last time today.

We also finally left the highway for real, and now followed the water along a cozy track with plenty of birds alongside us.

After noon we finally reached the outskirts of Invercargill, and left the trail to head towards PAK'nSAVE. There we bought more snacks, 8 packs of beef jerky (they are so tiny 😭) and food for today. Then back to Tuatara Lodge (already at 14!) where we stayed before, to make dinner.

The dinner consisted of roasted lamb steak, tomato, bell pepper, lettuce, GIANT avocados (😍😍😍) and mayo/Greek yoghurt in wraps. It was really tasty!

The rest of the afternoon we spent mostly sitting or lying down because our feet hurt from the road walk, but we were happy to be back and have a double room too 🥰
