TA Day 34: Tuesday 21 January 2025

Rest day in Methven

We slept very well, and didn't want to leave the bed in the morning, but finally we got up to have breakfast. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. Everything packed in tiny single portions and lots of plastic and rubbish just for one portion... But at least we had great company - Sam and Jan.

Next up was our massage! As usual we were a bit late and had to walk as fast as possible the last bit to make it to 10.30. The massage felt so good and relaxing.

After the massage we just had time to meet up with Rose one last time before she would hitch out of Methven. Previously she had been taking a break from the trail to sell her car, and now was a good time for her to go back and do Twizel to Queenstown. That way Caleb could rest his foot and join her again later.

There is always so much to do while in town! We headed back and started repacking the food, and Lukas sewed Kim's water bottle holder to Kim's backpack while Kim had another bath in the bathtub to make the most of it. But it was a bit stressful, since we were all going to meet at one of the pubs, and Kim was washing her hair and trying to blowdry it before going.

At the pub we ate so much food! Lukas had 2,5 meals and Kim 1,5. But as always, Jan was the one who ate the most 😂

Barry taught us a game we didn't know from before - Cornhole, and Lukas won both against Barry and also against Caleb, and for Kim and Barry it was a draw.

When we finally got back in the evening we packed the last food while video calling Kim's parents - who are going to come over in March!
