Fjellcravings

Lately Kim has been having fjellcravings (yes, apparently it's a thing now) so of course we had to do something about that - and before the end of the season.

This weekend nothing interesting was happening, and the weather in the nearest mountains looked promising. A little bit of rain, and not too cold. Of course you can never trust the forecast when it comes to the mountains, but still.

We decided to go for it.

On Friday we began driving north straight after work. Late in the evening, after sunset, we arrived in Norway, just a short drive from Grövelsjön. We parked the car and immediately fell asleep. During the night we once awoke to the sound of heavy rain, and quickly fell asleep again. But that was that. That was the only rain we got.

In the morning we headed out on the mountain, starting from the parking lot in Valdalen. Being back in the Scandinavian mountains again - fjällen, after almost a year, was amazing. Breathing the fresh crisp air that hints about the coming autumn, hearing the silence and feeling the freedom is just such a special feeling. It can't really be described, it has to be experienced.

We had a wonderful day, hiking around and up on Elgåhogna in Norway. All in all we hiked about 25 km. Slightly shorter than we had intended because we took another route than we had planned, but it was a rather good route. Very rocky in some parts on Elgåhogna, but we had expected that. And despite how amazing the weather was - not too warm, not too cold, no rain and just a nice breeze, it was still a bit tough sometimes, as should be. Nothing compared to the Alps though 😜

We made camp early and went to sleep early too, and slept long but bad. I guess we have gotten really used to our soft cushioned beds at home again since last year, huh.

All in all, a splendid weekend that was just the perfect kind of spontaneous plan.

We can't wait 'til we get to live the hiking life again.
