GB Day 3
GB Day 3:
Kummavuopio-Gaskkamus Rávdujávri
Via Hurvejåkka
Monday 12 July 2021
We woke up early, six o'clock, to the mosquito inferno from the day before. Then we headed off, and followed a dirt road through Kummavuopio. Finding the way off proved hard though, and we walked 500 m too far on it, and had to turn around. Then we heard a thunderbolt and the sky opened up.
We thanked whomever made it rain, because now the mosquitoes slowly disappeared. We then found a path that we took from the road, and headed into some bushes. Here it was a lot of greenery and sand. Unfortunately we soon lost the path among the bushes, but by aiming between two peaks, we could find it again. The mosquitoes had then started to come back... When the rain calmed slightly, we stopped to have breakfast. Soon after that, when we started walking again, the mosquitoes where suddenly all gone. We found that it was very windy, and that kept them away. We found it was now enjoyable to walk, but we were still completely soaked after the shower from the morning. It was easy to walk, the path was a bit hard to see here and there but nothing serious. By Hurvejåkka we had a long lunch in the super cozy and pretty shelter. The clothes then became almost dry. When we were about to leave, the sun hit us in the face. It was still very windy, but lovely with the sun. We took a picture, or quite a few, that didn't turn out very well. Suddenly we started laughing about it, and found that we couldn't stop and almost couldn't breathe. When the laughter died out, we continued with a good pace. We lost the path again for a little white, but by doing some map reading and using all three brains at the same time, we understood where we were, and found it again. We ended the day by walking into a valley by a big lake - Gaskkamus Rávdujávri, where we camped. Lukas bathed and we washed our clothes and Lukas (with some help from Kim) built a clothes line. Unfortunately the wind died out just as we put up the tent, and as one might expect, the mosquitoes immediately returned, and in great numbers. So we had to spend the rest of the evening outside together with them again.
