GB Day 40

GB Day 40:

Kullen - Daevna shelter

Via Atostugan

Wednesday 18 August 2021

Woke up really early, and Lukas was quickly out of the tent and made breakfast. Today we ate two of our freeze-dried desserts for breakfast. Do not recommend! None of them were very nice.

We then packed our tent and managed to get going before 8 AM. The morning started nicely, without any rain, and for a really long time it was just a drizzle. We kept ourselves busy with some guessing games again and talking about some different things. We soon got bored of the roadwalking still though. In Joesjö we found what looked like a little bus shelter, so we stopped here to have a snack break. We also met a couple that we talked a little bit with, they seemed to know about the area, but they also didn't seem to live there? So we don't know if they were locals or not. Anyway, Between Kalven and Övre Jovattnet Kim took another geocache. By now it was raining a little bit more and we had put on all our raining gear. A little further, by the beach, there was a shelter that we stopped by to have lunch. While we ate, the rain started pouring even more, so we sat there for sometime. Finally we decided we needed to get going anyway, because we hadn't even come halfway to Daevna shelter, our goal for the day. We hoped we could go there to dry up a bit, because according to the prognosis it was going to rain even more later in the day, and we knew everything would be soaking wet. After lunch we did the last roadwalking with headphones in, and listened to a podcast about space debris which was really interesting. It helped pass the time. When the roadwalking ended there was a privy that Kim used before we got going again. We soon reached Atostugan, and surprisingly there was a lot of people there. A whole group of teenagers, and three grown-ups. They were there with the church, and had been doing a day-hike up to Atoklimpen, a really cool mountain peak (Google it!).

We talked a little bit to them before continuing. Unfortunately, Kim missed that there was a geocache there, but at least got to take another one a bit further ahead. By now Kim's rain jacket had given up, but we had a lot longer to walk, so we tried to keep a good pace to stay warm. It was tough though, and Kim's fingers hurt quite a lot because they were so cold. After Atostugan, there weren't really any signs left, and no orange markings. Here we followed cairns, and if we did pass a sign it was lying on the ground. It was also extremely wet, and piles of planks had been laid out but they hadn't started building footbridges yet. It was foggy from all the rain, but enough sight for us to be able to see some 3-4 cairns ahead, so it was all right. Finally, we made it to the shelter, and was really thankful for it being there. Kim was completely soaked through, not a single peace of clothing was dry, while Lukas had a dry chest, fairly dry shoulders and legs.

We hung up our stuff, cooked some food and just had a really great and chill evening in the shelter. We then went to bed around 11 PM and slept like babies now when we were dry and warm again.
