GB Day 49

GB Day 49:

Hällingsåfallet - Tvärån

Via Munsvattnet

Friday 27 August 2021

Today when we woke up, Jonas and Helena had already left. We slept in as usual, took down the tent and went a few hundred metres to the small hut close the the waterfall, where we made our breakfast. We also, almost for the first time since we started walking, were annoyed with each other for a while. We got going late from the breakfast stop, and the trail was bad straight away. Wet and overgrown. We then came to a dirt road that we followed for a few hundred metres where we listened to a podcast together, then back onto the bad trail. Suddenly the trail lured us out into a big bog (Stormyren), so after trudging through it, along it and across it, we were definitely not dry anymore, but we finally found the lost path on the right side of the bog. We then followed this trail until we almost reached Munsvattnet, where we came to an ATV road. Here we took left instead of right, because Kim wanted to try to find a geocache. It was about 800 metres away, but after a lot of looking, we still couldn't find it, and Lukas wanted to get going again so we could have lunch. Finally, Kim gave up the looking, and we started walking all the way back along the ATV road, until we came to the bridge crossing Munsvattnet where we had our lunch, our favourite - Tortellini and Carbonara!

As we continued, we met two couple of ptarmigan hunters. They had only managed to shoot one, and when Lukas said we've seen a lot of them, the hunter said that maybe Lukas should act dog instead (😂). After some more walking we met the next couple of hunters, one of them seemed to know a little bit about Gröna Bandet and had a lot of questions, which Kim thought was fun.

We kept following the ATV tracks, but as we got closer to the sami residence it got harder and harder to stay on the right track, as there were a lot more in real life than on the map. Twice we followed the track into a bog where they disappeared and it took some time to find it again.

Suddenly, as we were walking toward one of the houses on the track, we saw a reindeer and stopped dead in our tracks. He was running, then walking, straight toward us, and we didn't know if he wanted to scare us or if he was curious. But he was just curious. He stopped when he reached Lukas (who was a few metres ahead of Kim) and sniffed his hand. Then he saw that his friend was running away, so he decided to do the same.

The rest of the walking wasn't too interesting. We followed the ATV tracks through more boggy areas until we finally reached the bridge that we'd had in sight. The last bit we got to walk in a really beautiful golden hour, but when we reached the bridge, the sun had just begun to dip below the mountains. Here by the bridge it was hilly, so it was hard to find a flat surface to pitch the tent. We struggled some time with this before Kim found a spot in a little hollow. We had tortilla chips for dinner together with the freeze-dried chili con carne that we got from Helena and Jonas two days prior.
