GB Day 51
GB Day 51:
West of Valsjöbyn - Rörvattsbodarna
Via Rötviken
Sunday 29 August 2021
Today was another slow morning. When we got up, Helena and Jonas was having breakfast, so we joined them by the table. After breakfast and after cleaning our rooms, Jonas called Jänsmässholmens Fjällhotell to book a stay there. He also booked for us at the same time, and we were lucky - we got both breakfast and dinner and a night at the hotel for a really good price. When Helena and Jonas set off, we stayed behind so Kim could finish some more blog posts. Meanwhile, Lukas went to throw the trash and the recycling. On the way back, he saw a backpack that he thought he recognised. So he went to see if it really was Andreas there, and it was, because as he went there he was met by a cute and fluffy Izo. We decided we could start today's walk together, so when we all were done we headed off along the road. Today we would just be roadwalking all day. At the nature rest stop by Toskströmmen we stopped to have a quick lunch. Kim also cooled herself by the water. Then we headed off again at a, for Kim anyway, insanely high pace. We barely paused either, just walked on and on in the scorching sun until we finally reached Rötviken. Here we caught up to Helena and Jonas who had paused by the camping site. So we did the same. They headed off soon again, but we stayed a bit longer to rest our feet (and also fret over the fact that we now had passed both stores on a Sunday, and the next one would be in Kall, four days away). But finally we got going again, and soon left the asphalt for a dirt road. While we walked here, we got to see another squirrel! Other than that, not much happened. Until we reached Ansätten Canyon. Here there was a shelter beside which one Helena and Jonas had put up their tent. Kim insisted we should put up our tent here as well, because the ground was really flat and there was water nearby. Neither Lukas nor Andreas wanted to do that though. Both of them wanted to continue. So we did. And Kim had a harder and harder time to keep up with them... We stopped along the way to take a geocache, other than that we walked on until we reached Rörvattsbodarna, which we took a little detour to, because we thought there might be flat ground and water nearby. It was flat there, but water was scarcer. In the end Lukas and Andreas found a little pool of water from which they filtered water and filled all the bottles to carry to the tent spot to have dinner.
