NPL Day 81

Day 81: Tuesday 5 September 2023

West of Horøsta-Straumbu via Follandsvangen, Flatseter

We heard a lot of traffic in the morning. But to where, the road was a dead end?

When we started hiking, we were passed by a total of three empty busses and some tractors that came from the end of the road. We were curious what could be there and why there was so much traffic.

The sun reminded us today too that summer wasn't gone yet. One snake, a viper, must've had the same feeling and were sunbading on the road. As we continued walking further, we saw another snake that hadn't been very lucky, and had been smashed under a tire.

When we came to the end of the road we met some people at the shieling that was located there - Flatseter. They took some pictures of us and asked us some questions about our hike.

Then we were back on a trail again. It was in good condition and nice to walk on.

After walking a few km, Kim noticed two people and said: "Look! Two hikers", at the same moment, a group of about 30 people showed up! Suddenly we were surrounded by a school class - a stressful moment for two hikers that are used to being alone.

The highest point for today was 1 500 m.a.s.l. We are getting closer to the higher mountains in Norway now!

While we walked down we met a local hunter. He gave us some advice for where to pitch the tent. We ended up walking longer today and pitched the tent right next to the car parking lot for Rondane National Park, down at Straumbu. Down there, along the water, we could see traces of the storm Hans. But now, the water level looked more normal again.

After pitching the tent, we ate food in the dusk, then quickly fell asleep.
