TA Day 107
TA Day 107: Friday 4 April 2025
Stillwater - Orewa, Dulcie Way
We woke up and saw a message from our AirBnB host. They wrote that no one would check in after us today, so we could stay as long as we wanted to. Since it was still pouring down outside and hard gusts, this was very appreciated.
We decided to try to wait out the worst weather, so we didn't start walking until after 14:00. We were road walking today, and apparently the first bit was along a road that was under construction. As we walked along, the road workers helped us pass safely and in some sections we were even escorted, which felt a bit strange but also funny.
But after this is started to rain more. We walked to the New World in Stillwater and bought our resupplies for tonight and some days ahead, then continued to our "hotel" that we had booked for the night. We had a room with shared common area, bathroom and kitchenette together with two other rooms. One that was vacated and one that someone lived in, as we had been told by the owner of the place.
When we first arrived we thought someone was in the house, since the TV was turned on and very loud, and in the bathroom there were things lying all around the sink and when we saw the bedroom door open, we realised that it was just us here. But they must not know that they could get company, why would they else spread their things like this?
We also noticed that both the freezer and fridge smelled bad. Maybe old oysters.
We tried not to get that to stop us though, as we hung our wet clothes, made our food and sat down to watch a movie.
Then, just as we were about to go to bed, they came back. We didn't talk so much before going to bed, but they were surprised to find us there.
