TA Day 109
TA Day 109: Sunday 6 April 2025
Moir Hill Road - North of Conical Peak
Tonight we got one extra hours of sleep since New Zealand went from summertime to wintertime. Kim was still as tired as always though.
The day started off nice, following a nice forest road, but for some time it was really hot and sunny!
We passed some farmland and then followed some roads to Waiwhiu, where there has previously been a café. Now we could at least fill our water bottles here which was needed and much appreciated. Then we cleaned our shoes in a Kauri cleaning station before going up in the dense forest again. This time on a trail. As we went on the trail got worse and really slow going. We also met two hikers that were section hiking SOBO.
It felt like it got really dark, really fast today, and the last bit we had to walk with our headlamps in the dense bush. But at least the trail got slightly better.
Once we got to the campsite, a little area dedicated to walkers by one of the locals, we had some noodles for dinner, washed ourselves and went to bed.
Today's:
Distance: 29.68 km
Ascent: 1297 m
Descent: 1340 m
Tent nights: 53/109
Weather: Mostly sunny with some short rain showers
