TA Day 111
TA Day 111: Tuesday 8 April 2025
Mangawhai - Waipu, Waterview Ridge
We started the day with a road walk in the morning. Resupplied at New World as we passed by.
We didn't feel like following the Te Araroa trail today, so we walked along Cove Road in the on/off rain, until suddenly a newly made track for walkers and bikers appeared alongside the road. Very nice! We followed this trackbeside Cove Road to Langs Beach, where we started following a regular pavement instead.
Somewhere here at Langs Beach there was also a trail near the coastline called Waipu Coastal Track that we had planned to follow but decided not to. Reading the sign at the start of the track made it seem like it would take a bit longer and take a lot more effort than we felt like giving today, so we passed on it. Instead we continued along Cove Road until McLean Road that was a gravel road that would take us to our AirBnB for the night.
At the start of the road we were met with signs saying that the road was closed and only residents could pass. We met one of the workers and asked about it, and he told us that yes, no one could pass. But once we explained our situation we were let through, and at the time we walked through, there was no machines working and the road was absolutely walkable, so we thought that it would've been weird if we wouldn't have been let through.
The last couple of km felt really long, but we finally made it all the way to this really amazing AirBnB - a cozy tiny cabin with a nice almost outdoor shower. Here we had really nice wraps and just a cozy evening together. Arriving early to a nice place like this is something we have needed for quite some time now, so we felt a lot better after this day.
Today's:
Distance: 26.84 km
Ascent: 404 m
Descent: 372 m
