TA Day 45
TA Day 45: Saturday 1 February 2025
Blue Lake Hut - Travers River / South of Travers Falls
Lukas woke up by what he thought was the local weka. We had been told to tie our shoes together because that weka, called Will, WILL steal your shoes at night. But it wasn't a weka, it was a possum, sniffing on Lukas backpack. Lukas banged on the tent and off the two of them ran. It was midnight so Lukas went back to sleep after that.
Both of us were tired today, and didn't wake up until after 07:30. We started packing our things and the rain started. Lukas now saw two wekas when he walked back up to the hut.
The first part of the hike, to West Sabine Hut, was quite easy, and it wasn't raining too much so that was nice. We met some people in the hut and before the climb. It was still somewhat of a drizzle but we did the climb without rain clothes on because it was so hot 🥵
We listened to podcasts on speakers (because we have problems with the headphones) while hiking up... And forgot to refill our water bottles in the last stream. Dang.
We had some Kvikklunsj (from the resupply box in Boyle) on our way up. It was slow-going and Kim was very tired and a bit hangry.
Luckily we found water just before the saddle, which meant that we could make some dinner up at the top, which we did. Unfortunately Kim picked "Thai Green Chicken Curry" without knowing that green curry is really spicy... She was so hungry so she ate it anyway, but almost cried while eating because her whole mouth buuuurned.
After eating we went down and it felt a little bit better. It was a bit slow-going but that was fine. It took some time to pass the Upper Traverse Hut, but once we had passed the hut then we were soon at tonight's camp spot.
Today's:
Distance: 18.91 km
