TA Day 99

TA Day 99: Thursday 27 March 2025

Kaimango Road / Kawhia Road - Kaniwhaniwha Campsite

When we got up this morning, we noticed a dog, Pip, outside the glass door that really, really wanted to come and join us inside. We let her in, and she could just never get enough attention!

At forest we thought that maybe her name was Shannon, but after reading through the guest book we figured her name was Pip. We tried to get her attention with the two different names, and that's when it was crystal clear - her name was Pip.

Before leaving we said Hello to Jo and finished our breakfast.

As we continued our hike, we passed a man with cowboy clothes in a paddock. We stopped and talked to him for a while. Really nice man.

Soon we reached the trail again, and here it got steep and muddy. Not too muddy though. But still a bit slow-going. Once we got closer to the hut at the top, we enjoyed a long boardwalk all the way there.

In the hut we met a TA hiker. Kim talked to him A LOT, and Lukas was so ready to leave... But then Rose showed up! We told her see you later, then continued down the mountain, mostly in the dark. It felt like an eternity before we finally arrived at the campsite in the dark. Lukas took a swim and Kim made dinne, and then it was off to bed.
