Day 62
TA Day 62: Tuesday 18 February 2025
Wellington, Wakefield Street - Awarua Street Station
This morning we wanted to sleep in again, but were awoken again at 7 by the drilling and machines from the construction site. It's not the nicest way to wake up, and after sometime it feels like your head eventually will explode.
We had some pancakes for breakfast, then we did laundry and then it was time for Lukas to finally go to a barber! First time during this hike.
Today we were also planning to do some more "proper" hiking compared to yesterday. So we packed our bags and went to pick up Kim's new phone first. Kim had found someone selling the phone she was looking for secondhand, and today it was time to pick it up. So we walked there, and bought it. So far so good.
Then we went up a hill, and sat down for a little while to just look at the phone a bit more properly. Kim also spent a bit of time trying to set it up, before we continued our walk.
We hiked up a nice trail in the forest and if we didn't hear all the city noise we could never have guessed that we were in the middle of a city. Then the trail went down a steep street and into another nice park with small streams running along the trail and cute bridges crossing it. As planned we went to Awarua Station that was just beside the trail. From there we took the train back "home".
Back in wellington we had dinner at an amazing Mongolian BBQ place. The place was crowded with young people, most of them looked to be of Maori descent, and later we learned that it was a school that was there. After finishing their food, one of them stood up and said some words in Maori, and then also in English - thanking the chefs for the food and then they finished by singing a song in Maori. It was a beautiful song, loud but lovely.
