Easter 2021

So as mentioned earlier, we were planning to hike during Easter. We had several trails to decide from, but in the end we chose Upplandsleden, and the part Siggefora-Enköping. We also brought three of our friends along, and their four-legged friend Diesel. The weather was okay - your typical spring weather with winds, hail and sunshine.

On Thursday evening, sometime after 7 o’clock we arrived in Siggefora. We parked by the lake and went to put up camp, just to find someone else had already put up their tent there. Luckily we found an even better spot just some 500 m away with great views. So after pitching our tents we started preparing dinner. I had some freeze-dried food that I was going to try out (it was good!) while Lukas had brought some fresh ingredients to make dinner for himself and our friends.

Late in the evening, well after sunset, we went to bed. Neither I, nor two of our other friends - Viktor and Helena slept quite well, and didn’t for the entire weekend. I had the crazy idea to try Lukas’ sleeping bag (it weighs about half of mine) since he was going to borrow my quilt, and Helena and Viktor had an old school sleeping bag which was separated into two pieces, and both of those being very cold on their own. Next time I’m bringing my own! 😂 I truly regret that stupid idea.

In the morning we had some breakfast on the hill with the view over the lake. I had freeze-dried yoghurt I had never eaten before - which was better than I expected, while Lukas had the standard oatmeal that we usually have as breakfast while hiking. The rest of the day was a lot of walking and a lot of talking. For lunch at least I wanted to stop by a lake, not only because of having a great water supply, but also just because it’s usually nicer. The amount of lakes here was scarce though, and after 10 km we happened to come across a well with a handpump at the edge of the forest, which we “borrowed” some water from to make our lunch, which we had sitting on some stones and a tree stump by the road.

Later as we kept walking, we passed the lake that I had suggested for our lunch spot - and I’m glad we didn’t stop there. The place was crowded with people. We kept walking and walking, and finally made camp at around 4 o’clock by Tenasjön. We had then walked a total of 20 km.
During the evening we ate some delicious pulled pork that Viktor and Helena brought with them, and tried out the chicken stew that we had dried earlier the same week.

On Saturday morning we started off with a late breakfast, which we had after having walked for about half an hour. It’s nice, to get going early! We then walked another 2 hours before having our next stop for lunch. We found a water source and some tables which improved the lunch. Unfortunately the opening to our bottle of “cream powder” which Lukas and I had brought had broken, so my entire bag was filled with the stuff. I wasn’t too happy about that, but we managed to get rid of most of it and stuff the bottle inside a bag. That was actually something Lukas and I had quite forgotten - extra plastic bags. Always good to have, just in case, but this time it wasn’t really on our minds at all.

We walked on after our long lunch, and walked, walked and walked. The environment got less and less solitary and we met more people and walked on more roads. There wasn’t really any good water sources we came across and we didn’t really find any good camping spots either. Finally we decided to walk to Torstuna kyrka and see if they had any water. We had read that during summer they did, but unfortunately they didn’t now. Luckily a nice man who lived just by the church let us use his water hose to fill up all of our water bottles and bladders. With that we walked back to the trail, and made camp just at the edge of the forest. This evening it was Mikael’s turn to make dinner - mashed potatoes, sausage and beer. We also tried our dried food - chicken in tomato sauce and macaroni. This day we walked 21 km.

Hanging out on the last camping spot.

Sunday was our last day of walking. Viktor, Helena and Mikael had a car parked by Torslunda nature reserve, which was just 3.5 km away. Here we had our breakfast in the morning sun. We had great weather that day, considering the sun that shone the whole day, but it was also really windy. Which was annoying if you ask me. After having left our friends by the car, Lukas and I was going to continue to Enköping. At first our plan was to sleep for another night and come home on Monday, but we decided not to. First off, we didn’t think we would find any more good camping spots since we were getting closer to the city. Secondly, I slept really bad in Lukas sleeping bag and was not feeling it, and thirdly, we thought it would be nice having a whole day at home before getting back to work on Tuesday. Which it was, because we were reaaaally tired and had very sore muscles from the walking on Monday. To arrive at the car in Enköping in time, we skipped lunch and just walked and walked. In Äs we had a short break though because we came across a place that sold fika! And of course you can’t say no to that. That day, we walked a total of 25 km. So 66 km in 3 days instead of 4. Well done all of us!
