GB Day 14

GB Day 14:

Balip Čazajávri-East of Nállu

Via Vistas

Friday 23 July 2021

Lukas woke to rain around 6, so he waited until it had almost stopped around 8 before getting up. Kim slept like a little baby and could easily have slept more.

There was a fallen tipi that we thought of having breakfast by, but it was a little bit too fallen, so we walked until we were in the valley. Here, the view was amazing, and we got to see our first reindeer horde. Since Treriksröset we have only seen one eindeer so this was pretty cool.

We had breakfast among the reindeer poo, before continuing down into the valley and over a bridge. After this we saw another two reindeer hordes, and later a helicopter that herded them.

As we continued down into the valley, the views were still great, but then we came to the mountain forest, and most of the view was swallowed by the trees and greenery. The trail got more wet, and muddier, and it felt like we walked for forever down in that forest. After many hours we finally reached a sign that said "Vistasstugan 0,5 km", and just like Viktor had said before, the hut showed up just in front of our eyes, despite there being nothing there the second before.

We sat down in the sun - and wind, and had a really nice lunch. Lukas and Kim made tortellini with carbonara and lots of cream. Delicious! We also feasted on some candy. Just before leaving, Helena and Lukas went to speak with the cabin host about the weather and the trail to Nallo. Then we continued up into the next valley. We met a guy who came from Ritsem, and asked him a little bit about what was coming. He told us about some river crossings, and the snow that had fallen over Tjäktja some day before. Once again, we were glad we had picked this route instead of passing Tjäktja.

We walked on with a good pace, and wanted to go at least halfway to Nallo before stopping to make camp. Soon, we came to the river crossing. Kim walked downstream while the others walked upstream. Downstream the river separated into several smaller creeks, so the crossing was fairly easy. Had she worn proper boots like Helena and Viktor it would have been fine. Unfortunately it didn't look as good upstream, so Kim waited for a really long time until she finally saw some familiar faces again. While Kim waited for the others to make it across the water, she had time to really admire the views from the valley. On one side there were spikey peaks that touched the clouds, and on the other side snow-covered peaks surrounded by a beautiful blue sky. When everyone was safely on the other side, we decided to make camp soon. We managed to find a spot that was a little bit covered against the wind, where we put up the tent. For once we managed to have our tents really close to each other, so we made food together beside them before giving each other a "tent tour" and going to bed.
