GB Day 44
GB Day 44:
Via Klimpfjäll
Sunday 22 August 2021
Today Lukas woke up early by his alarm, and went outside to pee, just to find that the whole cabin was surrounded by reindeer. Kim was tired and slept longer, so Lukas boiled some water while waiting for her to get up. Today our goal was to get up early and reach Klimpfjäll before Peter.
But after having eaten breakfast and almost finished packing our bags, Lukas stepped outside just to see Peter passing the cabin and disappearing into the distance. The clock was 07:15 in the morning - we thought we'd be fine, that maybe we would at least get a slight headstart. But nope.
So, slightly disappointed that he'd now "win the competition" to Klimpfjäll, we headed off at 07:30 in the morning. Today's hike started really cold. It had been just maybe 1-2 degrees tonight, and it was more or less the same temperature when we headed off. But the air was fresh, and the morning was still and quiet. We had slept in the cabin tonight to perhaps be faster in the morning, since we didn't have to take down a tent, but that did apparently not help, and it was just as cold as sleeping outside anyway, the difference was a little bit of wind.
But we soon reached Klimpfjäll, and as the day rose, the temperature did so as well.
Just before 10 AM we reached Klimpfjäll, so it was an hour until the store opened... But just as we came there, we saw that Peter had written to us, saying he was having breakfast at Klimpfjällsgården! So we went there, and decided to have ourselves a second breakfast while charging our electronics and talking to Peter some more.
When the store opened and we were finished eating, we went to the store to - first of all, pick up our depot box. And so we did. With both happiness and dread. We took out what we wanted, and offered the rest to Peter, who took whatever he wanted - some bars and a canister of gas. We then packed the box again with all the leftovers, but also with some things we didn't need anymore. Like a water bladder Kim had been carrying for a long time, but that had tasted dish soap since Ritsem, some extra clothes that Lukas had never used except for when doing laundry, and a cutlery set that we hadn't used pretty much since the plastic spoon broke back in Ritsem. Titan sporks/spoons rock you guys. Don't ever go for that plastic shit, it just breaks!
After sitting in the sun, talking to Peter for quite some time, Andreas showed up! So all of us had a conversation going for a while until Peter left again for Slipsikstugan. He wanted to pay us something for what we had given him, but we just said that a ride for Kim when she gets to Smygehuk, and for us to get to a warmed-up cabin tonight in Slipsik will be enough as payment 😉
Next up to do was to send back the broken MSR burner, and the ladies working at the store were really helpful! We also sent home the box. This was a little bit more problematic, and Kim even had to help out a little bit with this and also another person in the store (we don't think she worked there at the moment though) had to help out. But it worked out fine! We then bought soda, juice, a lot of fruit, sausage, Billys Pan Pizza and a pack of 12 tiny ice creams that we shared with Andreas. He then went to the hotel, and we said that we'll see each other in Gäddede (probably).
We then sat down to finish some more blog posts, before heading off towards the cabin. We started with a little bit of roadwalking, then there was a little dirt road that turned into a trail up across the mountain. The terrain here was fine, and actually a lot dryer than we had thought. Some parts were a little moist, but they weren't that much of an issue. The weather was great, perfect for hiking and we were both very happy 🥰 We also ate one cold Billy's Pizza each, and they were soooo good. So we just wanted to reach the cabin soon so we could have the rest of them. We also thanked Jesper for giving us this idea!
When we reached the cabin, we came to probably the best cabin so far. Peter had not made a fire, but it wasn't needed. This cabin was built in 2015, and it was really well isolated. It also had a sofa! When here, we ate all the other Billy's Pizzas, Lukas took a super cold swim in the lake and we had a nice cozy evening in the hut, talking about hiking - and some other stuff too! We then went to bed super early, almost right when the sun was setting, since Peter wanted to go to bed. I don't think we've ever gone to bed that early (just after 9 PM).
