NPL Day 101
Day 101: Monday 25 September 2023
Klerkatjørn-Haukeliseter via Hellevassbu
Since we had a long way to go this morning as well, we had an early alarm once again. The winds were really strong and it was still raining when we woke up. As we got ready and packed our things, we realised that one of our EVA pads were missing. It must have caught wind during the night somehow, and it was nowhere to be seen. It wasn't that much of a loss for us and we would make do without just fine since it was a luxury item we had decided to bring (previous hike we only carried one, instead of two). But the thought of us having (bidra till nerskräpning) was the worst part. It hurt our souls, but there was nothing we could do. With the strong winds during the night and this morning, it could be several kms away by now. So we had to keep going.
As we continued upwards and over the edge, the wind almost pushed us to the ground. It was a hard day, and we tried to just push forward so we could reach Haukeliseter. We had rain all the way to the "almost halfway hut" Hellevassbu, and tough terrain. At Hellevassbu we decided to pay for a day visit, and went inside to make a fire to try to dry our soaked clothes. Kim was wet down to her underwear and had s hard time to even get her body to get some warmth. Here we had lunch and ate some snacks before continuing. During our lunch break the rain stopped for a little while and we even saw a glimpse of the sun. But we didn't get to enjoy it long before it was pouring down again.
Just before sunset we could finally see Haukeliseter which really was a relief. We managed to get there just before the kitchen closed and could order dinner for us. Then we went downstairs to hang our clothes to dry in the tiny (and really bad) drying room, before going back up again to eat. Lukas had a burger while Kim ate fish with fries. After dinner we tried to sort out the logistics of everything. The drying room was in one building, our beds in another building and the shower and toilets in a third building. So Kim was walking around barefoot in the rain outside between the buildings because her shoes were drying 😅😂 Showering had to be done fairly fast because we only had two coins each to have warm water in the shower. The whole building there was cold and there was no point in staying there too long. The only plus side was that we got our own beds, in our own bedroom - and the lower bunk bed was wider so we could both fit!
