NPL Day 11

NPL Day 11: Tuesday 27 June 2023

Holmvannet-South of Brennåsen via Bojobæskihytta & Joatkajávri fjellstua

We went up in good time this morning, and just managed to start at 08:30 together with the French hikers. So nice to walk and talk! Everything just passed by so easily. Even losing the trail 😆

But we found it soon again.

Once we were attacked, more attacked than ever, by jaegers. We had full focus up to protect our heads, but then Kim managed two see two small baby birds, huddling together on the ground half a meter away. Light brown in colour, the size of chickens. No wonder the parents were so mad when we were that close!

We went over a hill and passed two people sleeping under the open sky, beside their ATVs. A dog was watching us carefully as we passed but stayed silent.

Then Hervé and Sophie wanted to eat breakfast, but we really wanted to reach the Bojobæski hut so we could go and 💩

So when they stopped for breakfast we continued. First at a normal pace but we started to panic more and more and in the end we were almost running. There were also more and more insects following us.

When we arrived at the hut, the toilet was unfortunately open and swarming with mosquitoes. So after some very panic filled moments together with the mosquitoes, we could go to the stream and pour water on us, and then calmly have our breakfast inside. It was REALLY nice.

We also wrote in the Hyttebok.

After about 1.5 hour the French hikers showed up again and we made us ready to continue. Then we followed an ATV track and talked. When leaving the hut we also met two other hikers, but we just greeted them and continued.

At one point Lukas saw a small bird flying away, and leaving a hole in the ground with around ten small, small baby birds in there. So fresh they didn't even have feathers yet!

It started to become heavier and heavier to walk, but we had decided that we would go to Joatkajávri and have dinner there. But it was especially heavy since we didn't take even a single break to rest our feet. But maybe it wouldn't have been possible anyway because of all the insects and the lack of wind. The sun also burned like crazy.

Finally we saw the farm and their the end felt near.

We met a Norwegian man there that we talked to a little bit. He was taking care of the area while the family that lived here was away.

We washed ourselves in a lake and had dinner inside one of the huts. A long nice dinner before continuing.

Hervé and Sophie wanted to hike further than us, so we kind of said goodbye, but then continued in the same direction with just a few meters between us for 5 km 🤣 We (Kim and Lukas) talked a lot and had a really good time. We had a lot to talk about and a nice big ATV track, almost like a road, to follow.

Last km we talked a bit more with the French hikers, before saying goodbye for real. We put up camp and had a swim, both of us! By a little sandy beach with an INSANE amount of mosquitoes. New record for this hike.

Before going to bed we talked a little bit to the camera too. Since we kind of haven't had time or energy to do that before.
