NPL Day 30 & GB Day 6
Day 30: Sunday 16 July 2023
Salvvasjohka-Lumsaluoppal via Lappjordhytta, Pålnostugan
This morning the sun was shining. The weather was good and there were no insects.
The terrain was really good for the first kilometers but when we started to descend the trail got wet.
Before crossing a water we met a German guy who was hiking from Abisko to the North Cape. We talked to him a bit, crossed the water and then had breakfast a little bit later.
After breakfast the weather quickly got colder and more windy.
After some time we could see Torneträsk and Čuonjávággi which was very cool. Then just before the border we reached Lappjordhytta where we used the double toilet and met some hikers that we talked to. One of them had the same backpack as Kim!
Next up was Pålnostugan that had been renovated since last time we were here. We didn't stop for long because the weather wasn't great. Rain on and off and then quite a lot of wind. Torneträsk looked like a stormy sea.
When continuing from Pålnostugan towards the road, we met first a big elk quite close, then s fox, then two more elks. Such a special experience to be so close to so big animals!
We reached the road and just marched on. We put up our tent by the side of the road and tried to have it somewhat protected from the gusts of wind by a hill.
Two nice people came and talked to us, they also asked if we wanted to have a ride but we kindly had to say no. They were also putting up their tent in the vicinity though.
In the evening Kim made dinner beside the tent while Lukas made the tent ready for us to go to bed.
