NPL Day 47 & GB Day 23
Day 47: Wednesday 2 August 2023
Virvasshytta-Kvitsteindalstunet
Lukas woke up at seven and immediately started to boil water and eat breakfast. Kim took over the bowl and ate her breakfast, and meanwhile we talked to the fishermen and Kristian. After taking some photos together we had some "stave kos" before leaving the hut (Kristian taught us about it). We had nice weather and pretty good terrain beside the downy willow and such (or the freakin' vegetables, as we say).
After some hours the rain started. Not much so not too bad! We took a quick break in a small emergency shelter, and from here we hiked quite fast.
We reached Kvitsteindalstunet at four and had a quick look inside the amazing hut that apparently cost 12 million NOK to build. We sat on the porch outside under a roof and ate dinner but after dinner we decided to stay here anyway. We said that if we stop early we can also start early. It's not worth it to camp on a mountain in rain and maybe even with a lot of wind and then continue the day after in wet clothes.
The rain did increase and we were not sure if there were any good tent spots in the next 10 km (it didn't look so promising on the map), and the next hut was 16 km away. We had already hiked 22.5 km so we weren't so keen on continuing for that long in the bad weather.
To stay in the hut was a good decision as the rain and wind increased in the evening.
We played some cards and yatzy, ate some snacks and got to bed before eight in the evening.
