NPL Day 48 & GB Day 24

Day 48: Thursday 3 August 2023

Kvitsteindalstunet-Umbukta via Sauvasshytta

Early morning today as the alarm went off already at four. Lukas got up fast and started with breakfast, and Kim soon joined. We made the bed, packed our things and cleaned the areas where we had been.

When we started hiking it felt tough, but the weather was okay.

When we came closer the the pass where we would walk up over 1000 m.a.s.l. the rain came. A lot of rain... We also got a lot of hard wind, and all the river and creek crossings got harder because of more water from the rain. It was scary to see how fast more creeks appeared and how much more water there was in the ones already there.

To get over the highest point of the pass we had to cross a steep and slippery snow wall. We passed Sauvasshytta and took shelter in the woodshed/toilet. Here we could have a toilet break, eat some snacks and take off our wet clothes for some time.

While being there, someone came and needed to use the toilet, so it was a funny moment when we stood there 😂 He said we could dry up in the hut, but we explained that we had just used the toilet and were now on our way towards Umbukta.

As we continued the rain stopped, and not long after that the sun started shining 🌞 We and our wet clothes quickly dried, and it actually got quite warm.

Down by the lake we could see Umbukta Fjellstue. We made our way down, and started to make our way through the camping area. Here we met an old man who apparently lived at the Fjellstua. He told us that he could drive us to Matbussen 😍

When we arrived we were asked if we were doing Norge på langs. Then we bought some fika and got the key to the room. We prepared the laundry and had a quick shower, then went back to have food. Burger, steak and fries. Really nice!

Later that afternoon, when we waited for the laundry to be done Hans Viktor, who is also hiking Norge på langs but northbound, showed up. We talked the entire evening and it was really nice with some company 😀
