NPL Day 59 & GB Day 35

Day 59: Monday 14 August 2023

West of Gjersvikklumpen-Skorovatn

Today we continued walking on the road, and started early - already before 8. We passed 10 km before eating breakfast on the shore of a big lake. We had reception all day and there was not much traffic, so we could use our phones a lot while walking. The nature was nice too. The plan was to do 30 km before 16, because that was when the store would close - or so we thought. No problem, we would be there in time.

The idea was to buy snacks and food for the coming days, and fresh food for the evening which we would spend in a DNT hut. This hut was supposed to have an oven and running water!

Some time after breakfast we just wanted to double check when the store closed, and it seemed that it closed already at 15, not at 16!

Suddenly it was quite tight with time. Would we make it? Originally we thought that we would arrive maybe at 15, so we had to walk on really hard without many breaks to make it in time. In the end, we managed to arrive half an hour before closing time. Kim was disappointed to see that they didn't have Pringles, and we were also disappointed that they didn't have our favourite chocolate - Freia with Kvikk lunsj, but we found some other nice stuff. We also bought bread, cream cheese (mjukost), vegetables, creme fraiche (lettrømme), pizza, nugatti, kjøttkaker and something that we thought was what you put in lefser and klenning - some kind of butter cream with cinnamon and cardamom. But once we tried it back at the DNT hut, it didn't taste like that at all. It was like bad messmör, a bit drier, not very sweet at all (like the packaging claimed) and didn't even contain cinnamon, something we missed that it said on the lid. Apparently because of shortages of getting the right type of cinnamon, so then they didn't have any at all.

Nope. Not buying that again.

On the way to the DNT hut, Kim took two geocaches while Lukas walked straight there. We ate food, played Yahtzee (in just two rounds, we got a total of FIVE yahtzees! In the second game Kim even started with one) and showered. In the evening Kim also tried to finish documents for a job application, but she was too tired so eventually she just fell asleep.
