NPL Day 99
Day 99: Saturday 23 September 2023
Kjeldebu-Sandhaug via Tråastølen, Falkabu
This morning we woke up after the Belgium couple. The fire was burning when Lukas got up and they had calm music on in the background. They gave Lukas some bread, and after some time, Kim got up and joined breakfast. Before leaving we cleaned the hut.
It didn't take long this morning until we walked behind a bend and couldn't see the hut anymore. Then, some time later, we hiked uphill and suddenly had the most amazing view. From here we could see into Hardangervidda.
Some more bends and curves later, we reached the road by which Dyranut and Tråastølen lay. At Tråastølen there were some tables and information signs about Hardangervidda, so we sat down for a break and Kim also read on the signs.
Then we followed a gravel road for a really, really long time. It was nice, but also a bit tough. Kim's foot didn't feel great, so Kim tried to walk a bit differently to not make it worse. Not sure if it helped...
We passed a parking lot by the lake Langhølen, and from there properly entered the national park. Now it really hit us how flat it was, and we could really see why this place was named vidda. The landscape was really similar to Finnmarksvidda, although we had been up there while it was warm and nice, and not when it was like this.
After crossing into the national park we followed what looked like a tractor road. The trail was good so it didn't take too long until we made it to Sandhaug. We had hoped to be more alone this late in the season, like in the previous hut, but here we met as much as 6 people and for the first time in a self-service hut we had to share bedroom with another hiker. But at least we didn't have to sleep outside 😊
We bought some food, made dinner and tried to recover after the long day. Then we crawled into our beds to sleep.
