TA Day 115
TA Day 115: Saturday 12 April 2025
Sandy Bay Freedom Campsite - Kōmanawa Farmstay, Kaiikanui Road
After yesterday's long day we were happy to have a shorter day today.
The day started with a beautiful walk along the coast. Over and around green hills with views towards the ocean and houses hidden here and there inside their own bubbles of paradise.
Then we started getting closer to Whananaki, and soon reached the longest footbridge in the southern hemisphere! 395 meters.
It took us to the little village of Whananaki, where there was a general store and where they sold burgers and stuff. It was really nice here with a long break, burgers, resupplying and cold soda. Lukas even ate two burgers during the time we were here 😂
We also had a look on our plan for the upcoming days. As we had decided yesterday, we were going to take shorter days now where it was possible.
The sun was trying to burn us to death when we sat there, but we had to move on. We bought some more soda and kept walking, this time on the road. All the way until we got to this nice trail angel place called Kōmanawa Farmstay.
Normally you would camp here, but since it's low season and not any others here, they said that we could sleep on the floor in the common area, which we really appreciated. We also got freshly fished king fish, and were able to do some laundry.
Today's:
Distance: 26.31 km
Ascent: 492 m
Descent: 378 m
Tent nights: 55/115
Weather: Mostly sunny morning with some short showers, then sunny and HOT afternoon
