TA Day 24

TA Day 24: Saturday 11 January 2025

Lake Ohau Track - Twizel

This morning was a long and endless road walk along a gravel road. Not a lot of interesting things to see, and very hot as always.

Once we finally reached Twizel, we stopped by the first café we passed to have some food, since we hadn't eaten a proper breakfast yet this morning. It was so nice! Lukas had fish and chips and Kim had bread with avocado, feta, beans and some other nice stuff on it. It was nice, but quite expensive!

Then we walked to the Holiday Park. At first we were alone, but soon we were joined by an older man, from Nova Scotia who was a former TA hiker and was now back to walk some sections again. He talked. A lot.

At the holiday park we had a shower, did some laundry, ate wraps with lots of nice fresh stuff on it, talked more to the man from NS and then suddenly, someone we recognised appeared...

Caleb!?

Lukas ran out with a beer and we were so happy to see him. Last time we saw him was in Lake Hāwea and we heard that he stopped one more day there to rest, since his foot isn't doing so well. Apparently he barely made his way to Birchwood Road, and from there he managed to hitch from Twizel, and that's why he suddenly caught up to us. His friend Rose, whom he started the hike with, has spent some time off trail to sell her van, and now she will join him again in Twizel and they till hike together again.

Later in the afternoon, Lulu and her father, Jules, arrived too. Now we only miss Barry and Ryuya!
