TA Day 25

TA Day 25: Sunday 12 January 2025

Twizel - south of Tekapo Canal

We didn't finish our food yesterday, nor the ice cream we bought, so the day started with chicken wrap and then some ice cream for breakfast. Not bad, ey!?

We started walking and called home, and as we did, we saw some guys parachuting with the NZ flag underneath them, and then landing quite close by. Really cool!

Just as we were about to say goodbye to Lukas parents, we saw someone ahead of us that we recognised - Caleb! Rose was ahead of him, so we walked together with him all the way to Lake Pukaki. This section was long and flat - and very exposed. Once we reached the lake, Lulu and Jules caught up to us, so we walked together a bit longer and then found a nice table by the lake.

Here we took a break from hiking, went for a swim - even Kim went for a swim! First time in New Zealand! Then we sat down by the table together and all of us had some really nice luxurious lunches. We won the lunch competition with our wraps with avocado, tomato, sugar snaps, tuna, pesto, cheese, sprouts... It was just soooo good!

The break was so nice, but walking again felt difficult. The sun and heat made us slow and tired. We quickly passed Caleb and didn't see him anymore that day, and after leaving the road we caught up to Lulu and Jules. Finally a little bit of a breeze and it felt better.

In the evening we finally reached our planned camp spot that Lulu and Jules joined, and a little bit later, Jules found Rose by the canal (so a little bit further ahead) and she camped by us as well.

The sunset was really pretty, and when we woke up during the night, the stars were too. Or, the stars we could see, because the moon was so strong!

Today's:

Distance: 30.35 km

Ascent: 465 m

Descent: 266 m

Tent nights: 17/25

Weather: Sunny and hot, with some breeze sometimes
