TA Day 43

TA Day 43: Thursday 30 January 2025

Anne River / East of Discovery Peak - Waiau Uwha River / South of Webber Falls

We had a calm morning and started the day with a 3 km walk to Anne Hut were we had our breakfast. Apparently there were 6 SOBOs staying here, but we only saw one passing our tent in the morning, and we didn't meet anyone.

The trail was really nice today as well, which was good because both of us were really tired today. Our legs felt like spaghetti. We listened to podcasts all day again. It wasn't a very eventful day, but at least we met a Norwegian, Bjørn. He had done Norge på langs in winter on skis, and hiked PCT, among other hikes. Usually with his wife but this time he was hiking alone. Apparently he hadn't met any Swedes or Norwegians on his hike yet, but we told him he might catch up to the Norwegian girl who was a few days ahead of him.

As we continued walking, our headphones died, so we were "bad hikers" and continued to listen to podcasts but through the speakers... Worked okay, and when we met people we tried to pause it so we wouldn't disturb them...

We stopped for a well-needed lunch/dinner-break and Lukas had a swim. We started to see more and more of the mountains, and one of them would be tomorrow's challenge.

We decided to walk further than the next hut, Waiau Hut, but ended up camping only like 1 km from it, but the spot was great. The swim spot not so much, but Lukas made it work as always.

In the evening as we were laying in our tent, we heard a scary sound repeating over and over, maybe from a deer? Sounded "almost as an orc" (or kind of like a reindeer). We've never heard that sound before.

Today's:

Distance: 31.00 km

Ascent: 334 m

Descent: 372 m

Tent nights: 30/43

Weather: Misty morning and some clouds, more and more sunny throughout the day
