TA Day 53
TA Day 53: Sunday 9 February 2025
Starveall Hut - Rocks Hut
It was windy and cold in the morning, and we had a hard time leaving the hut because everyone was so nice to talk to, and Lukas didn't want to stop petting the cute dog that was there đ„°
Finally, everyone had left but us, and we had to go too.
Our knees cried as we made our way down the steep and veeeery loooong hill.
And then, on our way down, guess who we met - again!? The two older ladies that we met first before Macetown, and again before Lake Ohau! What! Just a few days earlier we had joked about how crazy it would be if we met them again!
The last part to the hut required some rock skipping for us to stay dry, but we made it. Then we found a perfect swim hole and went in, both of us! But once we got going again it took like 10 minutes and then we were just as sweaty, if not more sweaty again đ
When we came to Browning Hut we sat down by a small creek in the shade for some lunch.
Lukas went in the water to cool down again, but as before, it only helped for a very short time.
When we started to walk now, both of us felt done for the day. But there was lots of elevation and loooots of roots left first.
Also, we were still hungry even if we just ate. Hiker hunger really kicked in before we entered the Richmond's, but we didn't really plan for that, so every day we've been hungry but today beat it.
It felt like forever, especially in the heat, so when we finally reached Rocks Hut we felt very relieved. This hut was strange, a lot bigger than the other huts, and a flushing toilet! Even though it was no way near a road and there was nothing else fancy there, not even an inside tap :)
But we decided to sleep inside the hut again, and shared it with some other nice hikers.
