TA Day 55

TA Day 55: Tuesday 11 February 2025

Pelorus Bridge - Havelock

We packed up our things, and walked all the way over to the food truck, then had to wait another half an hour before we could order food. We waited patiently, and really hoped it would be worth it. Either way it wasn't like we had a lot of options, because we were out of food.

We finally got our food, a chicken bowl and vege bowl, which we devoured in an instant. We debated if we should now go to Havelock, but we decided to go for some fries too. And some ice cream. And a cookie.

Theeen, we finally got going.

The first km went through a really nice forest, one of the nicest so far in a way, before we reached farmland. It was fast, yet slow, since we had to cross stiles every couple hundred metres. After a while it got slightly annoying.

Just before it ended, we saw something fun that someone (the owners probably) had done. They had some bales of hay by the side of the trail, and a sign saying that you could write or paint on them, and they had also left some pens there. We saw @gumbootsandsneakers had written on them at least, but we didn't recognise any other names, but of course had to write and paint a little picture too :)

After this we followed a road for a few km with pretty much no traffic at all which was great!

The last few km to Havelock went along a bigger road, one of the least nice roads so far on Te Araroa, at least Kim thought so.

We were relieved once we were finally in Havelock, the town of mussels, - for several reasons. Getting off the road, getting a room where we could shower, to eat food etc.

For now, and especially after the Richmond's, it felt like paradise.

Except that there were plenty of chores that needed to be done, as usual, which Lukas took care of.

Today's:

Distance: 22.73 km

Ascent: 149 m

Descent: 165 m

Tent nights: 36/55

Weather: Cloudy but warm
