Day 5 off trail - Visited Te Puia

Today we visited Te Puia, in Rotorua. It was an intense guided tour with Maori history, language, culture, bubbling mud pools, geysers, corn cooked from a hot pool, a short visit to the kiwi sanctuary and a Maori song and dance show with action songs, female poi dance, traditional stick games and the famous war dance, the haka.

After all of this, Patrik and Lukas quickly went home, while Kim and Elisabeth stayed slightly longer to see the biggest geyser Pohutu erupt again - it can erupt as high as 30 metres! Then we also went home.

In the late afternoon, Patrik and Elisabeth went out again while we stayed at home and rested after the very intense day. Then we didn't do much else than cook dinner, eat and play cards before going to bed.
