TA Day 90: Tuesday 18 March 2025

Owhango - Taumarunui (New World)

Today we tried our best to start early again, but we started slightly later today. Kim's parents dropped us off in Owhango where we stopped yesterday. After crossing the highway we followed a gravel road, which was very cozy, with views over greens hills along the way and all types of livestock whose gaze followed us as we passed. After some time, the sun managed to get through through the cloud cover some now and then, but after lunch it started to drizzle, and then rain.

We stopped to talk to an ostrich and give apples to a horse along the way.

When we got closer to town we passed a bus shelter, and decided to stop for a rain free break. We called Kim's parents, who were supposed to meet us but for some reason they hadn't showed up yet, and Lukas had just received a picture from Elisabeth showing an orange triangle, and had written "we are following these markers". We instantly got worried as we were on a road and not a trail, and when we talked to them we realised that for some reason they had started to follow a trail close to town in a completely different direction 🤣 Despite very clear directions from Lukas in the morning.

After some explaining and guidance, we met by the bridge going into Taumarunui. From there we walked together to New World, bought some food and drove "home" to the AirBnB. Then we did laundry, ate meatballs and mashed potatoes, played cards and snacked on some popcorn in the evening.
