GB Day 64

GB Day 64:

Vättafjället - Rödviken

Via Skedbro

Saturday 11 September 2021

When we woke up it was just as foggy as when we went to sleep. The only difference was that it was brighter outside.

As we continued our hike, we noticed time and time again how we were surrounded by reindeer. No matter where we looked and where we walked (at least the first kms) we saw shapes in the fog like reindeer ghosts. Spooky!

As we started making our way down, the sight got better.

Soon we saw a cot that didn't look to be in the best shape, with trash thrown around it too. Disgusting behaviour...

The cot didn't match completely with the triangle on the map for Broktjärnskojan, on the map it looked to be about 200 m South of us. So we decided to go a bit longer and have a look before eating our Billys second breakfast/brunch-thing since the weather was fine. Unfortunately the cot was Broktjärnskojan, so we sat down on a stone instead to eat.

We then continued across the rocky terrain and over footbridges across bogs. We started to discuss whether we would see the cabin at a distance, or not until we would get really close. But we then walked further down into even thicker woods with higher pines and realised that we probably won't see it until we are close.

We also passed the very nice and cozy tent spots that the cabin host from Fältjägarstugan had pointed out for us and they were indeed nice, situated around the lakes Dalstenshån and Båthån. Too bad we passed them so early in the day!

By Skedbrostugan we sat down on a bench and started preparing our lunch. We also met the very nice host couple Per-Allan and Ulla. One of them showed Lukas some potential tent spots further ahead, and we stopped there for quite some time talking about Kim's hike south of Grövelsjön. They were even nice enough to offer some help along the trail as Kim gets closer to Örebro! So nice of them.

We continue, and because of the weather, we decided to not go over Bustvålen, a route that the host in Fältjägarstugan also suggested. We didn't know for how long the sight would stay good - because now it was better than this morning, and we didn't know if it would be a nice walk in the rain.

During the day it was raining on and off a lot, so we had to do several stops to take on or off rain jackets. And for a while, we also weren't in the best mood, so lot of unnecessary arguing.

Later in the day we met Björn, he seemed like a nice fellow who just walked wherever he felt like and preferably not on a trail. Unfortunately, he told us, his gas canister had run out and his new one didn't fit his burner. So we gave him our big gas canister, that would give him enough gas to make it to Hamra Livs at least, and he thanked us a lot for it. He also mentioned having met Agnes like one day ago or so.

The last km of the day felt incredibly long, almost never-ending, likely because of the extremely rocky terrain. Earlier in the day we'd thought that "Rogen" wasn't so bad as everyone had been saying, but here the stones was getting a little too much. But we finally reached a house, on which porch we found shelter from the sudden downpour.
