NPL Day 109
Day 109: Tuesday 3 October 2023
Leirvika-Snartemo via Eikerapen, Skeie, Birkeland
Lukas got up fast today, but before going we spent some time drying the tent. When taking it down, Lukas noticed a tiny "pearl" in the tent. Kim thought it was weird but didn't think so much about it, just wondered how it ended up there. Then Lukas said, all of a sudden: "Can I see your piercing?"
And he had been right, one of the balls of Kim's eyebrow piercing had fallen out. Phew! Lucky that we found it!
The morning was calm, with misty mountains all around us. The lake was like a mirror, the birds were singing and the sun warmed our faces.
We took the opportunity and took out the drone for a short flight. It was definitely the right moment, because not long after, it got more cloudy and grey.
We continued on the road for some time, and now we were hiking on a smaller road which was nice, because we almost didn't have any traffic at all. Suddenly Kim got a phone call. When she answered it was one of the jobs she had applied for!
After the very nice phone call we kept going in a good mood. We followed a forest road that took us over a mountain/hill and down to the town Eiken. We had a very short break here and charged our electronic devices while eating hot dogs in the store's cafeteria. Because of the long break and phone call we couldn't stay here very long, since we needed to reach the other store in Birkeland before they closed at six.
It was 12 more km to Birkeland, and we kept a good pace and managed to arrive there with half an hour to spare. It was too bad we hadn't arrived earlier though, because this store was a bit bigger and had outlets and a table inside, but in front of the entrance so we could sit inside. We bought what we needed and looked for a tent spot on the map. Lukas found some kind of shelter on the map and from what we could see on Google Street view it looked like we could sleep there.
So we went there, and arrived after almost 5 more km. It wasn't the standard Swedish shelter, nor those that only have benches and are common by fishing lakes in Sweden, but long and narrow, with benches and a floor. Good for us because that meant we could sleep on the floor and put up the tent in the opening as protection from the rain.
We had some dinner - so nice with fresh chicken salad, and Kim had another job call.
