NPL Day 97
Day 97: Thursday 21 September 2023
Kittilsbuflaten-Finsehytta
Kim could not stop hugging Lukas in the morning. And none of us were stoked about having to crawl out of our warm sleeping bags and head out in the rain. But we really had to. After eating breakfast in the tent it was time to go. There was a lot of uphill and the day was really tough even though the distance was quite short. It was really heavy and wet. But our surroundings were cool with lots of snow here and there left from the winter. In one place Lukas even walked under the snow in a tunnel made by running water. We continued uphill and finally at 1 650 meters we were finally at today's highest point. We had now hiked more than than halfway, and it was pretty much only a long slope down to Finse left.
We stopped by outside Klemsbu - a café that is only open during winter, and took shelter from the wind as good as we could. Kim was quite wet from the rain, and had to put on warmer gloves.
Then we kept going. Finally we could so Finse. There we stopped quickly by the railway station to take a geocache before continuing towards Finsehytta. You can only get to Finse by train, bike and foot, from our understanding, so it was interesting to walk around without having to care about cars.
We came to Finsehytta early which was really nice. So we had a lot of time to relax. We ate a hamburger each and also some really big buns! Then we had a shower and hung all our clothes to dry. In the evening we made our way downstairs and sat in the lobby/restaurant as we tried to update a bit on Instagram. The strangest part happened in the evening. A man that was walking around in the building and that we had seen talk to the staff, and look at things, suddenly approached us. It was hard to hear what he said, and Kim first thought he was Danish. He told us that "we don't like that, we would like you to wear socks", or something along those lines. We were sitting barefoot in a corner, minding our own business, in a mountain station... Aren't mountain stations for hikers? What do you wear when your socks and shoes are wet? We had no idea if the man was working there or not, but either way it is probably one of the more silly things we've experienced as hikers.
We answer him "okay" and he walked off. We didn't move, because we thought the whole thing was silly and we wanted to finish whatever we were doing, and THEN go to bed. So we sat there in our corner, barefoot, and finished up our things to catch up on, then we got up and went to bed.
