TA Day 64

TA Day 64: Thursday 20 February 2025

Porirua Station - Paekakiriki Station

Last day of waking up to the noise from the construction site outside the window. Can't wait to get somewhere else!

After taking the train back to Porirua we hurried over to New world and bought pie and focaccia. Kim was almost in a killing mode but it calmed down after eating. After some time of walking, with not much going on, we passed a cute park. Then beside a big road over the railway we found a playground with a swing that we decided to try out. Kim, who hasn't been sitting on a swing for at least 10 years, felt nauseous immediately. Lukas on the other hand felt fine, and thought it was fun!

As we continued, a young school boy, still in his school uniform, showed up, who apparently were going in the same direction as us. He wanted to go and see a swing bridge. He pretty much walked together with us for one hour before we reached... A completely normal, nice, swing bridge? Okay? Hopefully he thought it was worth it. We weren't sure what his plan was, but when we told him that it takes about two hours to walk to Paekakiriki, he immediately turned back.

We continued up several stairs on the side of the hill, looking down the at the ocean below. On the way, we called and booked a motel in Waikanae. Paekākāriki didn't have any nice stores, and no stores close to accommodations, so taking the train to Waikanae was nice because we could keep some things there and also some food.

We were so happy when we finally arrived, and were glad that this place was sooo much better than the dirty, crowded and noisy hostel in Wellington.
