TA Day 65
TA Day 65: Friday 21 February 2025
Paekakariki Station - Waikanae (Ariki Lodge Motel)
Finally a morning with no noise! Ah, wonderful!
But also last day using public transport back to the trail. Today we took the train to Paekakariki Station in the morning and then walked back to our motel in Waikanae.
We started the hike with some clouds, and it was nice to have cooler temperatures. We walked most of the day on the beach and saw several people walking their dogs. We met one of them - a cute retriever. We exchanged some words with the owner and then continued. It was nice to walk hand in hand, and look at the birds. But after some time, Kim's mood started to change.
She started to talk a lot about food, and look for food on the map, knowing she needed to eat - soon. She also needed to find a toilet, and when we missed the exit from the beach that would take us to the toilet, because Lukas who was in charge of the map reading was looking at some cool tractors with trailers that pick boats up because there is no dock, Kim got very upset.
After her toilet break she went straight to the closest Four Square, we bought some pies and after eating that, all was good again. We continued on our hike, now in the city instead of on the beach. We had some rain, but then it was back to sunshine again.
We met a few more cute dogs on our way back, and then we finally arrived back at our motel. We had tried to call the motel earlier to ask if we could extend our stay with one day, and when we came back we got a confirmation that we could. Yay!
So we went to New World and bought some food for the evening and also some snacks. Then went back home to have dinner, watch some TV-series and eat popcorn.
