TA Day 84: Wednesday 12 March 2025

Day 3 off trail - Hobbiton & mini golf

Another fairly early morning as we got up to drive over to Hobbiton. The filming location of The Shire in the Lord of the Rings movies and the Hobbit movies. The guided tour started with a bus ride to the filming set which is situated on a private property, so the guided tour is the only way to visit.

The guide showed us around the set, which from the beginning when the Lord of the rings movies were filmed, only was a temporary set. In between, the place was left and everything removed, so once they came back to film the Hobbit movies, it all had to be rebuilt. This time around they decided to make it all permanent, and that is why the Hobbiton exists! And that we were happy about, since it’s all so pretty and there are so many beautiful details.

The tour ended with a drink at the Green Dragon Inn, and then it was time to go back.

This tour was lovely, just perfectly paced and felt a lot less crowded and touristy than we had imagined beforehand.

After the tour we went to Hamilton to play mini golf at Callum Brae Family Golf & Cafe. We played as much as 34 holes! After 18 holes we had to take a fika-break, so we had coffee, smoothie, muffin and cake 😄 Then we started again on the last 18 holes. It went slower and slower as we lost patience and felt that we wanted to get home to have dinner soon…

The game ended with Patrik winning both games and Kim losing the first game and Lukas losing the second game. Out of all the 36 holes, Patrik won, Lukas came second, and Kim and Elisabeth shared the last spot.

A good game but a bit tedious towards the end.

We were all very happy to go home to eat dinner once we were back at our holiday park.
